Club History

If you have never seen or heard of rugby before, do not be concerned, BRFC accepts all sizes, shapes and abilities – truly one of the unique parts of this sport. There are no try outs. If you make a commitment to the Club, you are part of the Club.

In the spring of 2007 a few upperclassmen, including English import Joe Arkinstall, approached Greg Bruce about rugby. They knew of the game and were intrigued. They knew Greg played and they wanted to learn from him. At first hesitant, Coach Bruce finally capitulated and met with the boys on the field after school a few days a week. Word spread quickly and Coaches Tommy &  Zilcoski tracked the motley bunch down and joined the staff. Year one had no formal matches, but the seed was planted. By year 2, Coach Borle was on board, The Friends of Belmont Rugby (now Belmont Rugby Association) formed, & BRFC’s first match was scheduled.
