Belmont win 2 pre-season tune ups, ready for regular season
March 22nd, 2014
Staples High School, Westport, CT:
An annual tradition between Belmont & Staples has grown into a successful tradition, with the clubs trading home & home visits for the last 4 years as a way to prepare for the arduous regular season campaigns.
In this year’s installment Belmont RFC traveled to Westport and were graciously hosted by Staples. On field highlights included an integrated training session run by both club’s coaching staffs; a set piece scrimmage for the 1st & 2nd sides as well as a scaled down version for developmental sides; and a 40 minute match between both club’s 1st XV. Belmont were victorious this year, topping the hosts 45-0. Belmont were able to feature many new players and the experience allowed both coaching staffs to assess and analyze their systems of play and player depth.
But by far the highlight of the day was the incredible post game social held by Staples. Food as far as the eye could see was served and both clubs used the opportunity to chat each other up, swap stories, and take part in the most important of rugby brotherhood traditions.
It’ll be tough to top 2014′s installment of the Belmont/Staples pre-season day next year! Belmont look forward to seeing Staples again in 2015.
