Match Report: Belmont Victorious Over Brookline HS

Belmont Varsity and JV Sides Defeat DI Newcomers Brookline High

Date of Contest: 4/12/17

Varsity Score:   Belmont 53                 Opponent 5

The Belmont side came into this match having focused on a number of key areas the coaching staff targeted as areas of weakness and the team executed the game plan very well.  It was a lopsided affair favoring the home team, but Brookline was a big, physical and aggressive side that never gave up and pushed all the way until the final whistle.  Joe Viale led the team from the start with 3 quick tries in the first fifteen minutes and gave Belmont a 17-0 lead.  Belmont continued to work through their game plan and eventually the pressure led to another try through the hands of Will Lozano to Sam Harris who dotted down for the 4th try of the match and a 22-0 scoreline.  From the ensuing kickoff Brendan Walsh had a great run, followed by Nick Leland, but an unforced error by Belmont gave Brookline the ball back.  They turned it over and from a kick by Belmont Brookline got a good bounce and ran the ball back 60 meters for their 1st try and brought the score to 22-7 to close out the 1st half.  During the half time talk the team discussed getting back to the game plan and they did so and then some during the 2nd half.  Off of a lineout deep in Brookline’s end the team brought it down and mauled it in with Will Lozano scoring the try and taking a 29-5 lead.  With their confidence up Belmont continued to press and ended up scoring 4 more tries to finish out the half and the result was a final score of 53-5.  Marvyn Dorchin scored two times and Sam Sagherian and John Campbell each scored one to finish out the match.  Overall the home team scored eight tries to Brookline’s one and put in a solid performance across the board and are sitting at 2-0 going into the April break.

JV Score:   Belmont 33            Opponent 5

In the JV match, similar to last week, the Belmont side scored early and often finished with a 33-5 victory and they are also sitting at 2-0 going into the break. Leaders on the day were Max Murphy, Wooseong Kwon, Ben Adams, Anders Lawrence and Kevin Martin.
